HikingWith places like the Blue Ridge Parkway and Grandfather Mountain in our backyard you can imagine that this is one of the more popular activities. There are tons of great trails that the public can access and most all of the neighborhoods and resorts in the area feature their own walking paths and nature hiking trails.
Mountain BikingMountain Biking is huge in our area and Lance Armstrong once visited to train for the Tour de France here! Sugar Mountain has long been a favorite spot for mountain biking, and annually they hosted a bike competition for more than a decade until 2007. Beech Mountain recently opened a newly minted mountain biking park and the trails atop Beech are some of the most challenging trails you'll find in the southeast.
FishingThe Watauga, Toe and Elk Rivers all flow through our area creating gorgeous river scenes and excellent places to go trout fishing and fly fishing. There are several quiet hideaways that you can find just off the major highways in the area and all of the area's neighborhoods have small trout ponds where children and their families can enjoy trout fishing. Beech Mountain and Sugar Mountain both have some cute little lakes and ponds that are open to the public.
Horseback RidingEquestrian pursuits have always been a huge part of the resort lifestyle that vacationers come to Linville and Banner Elk to enjoy. There are numerous horse farms and stable companies in the area and many of prestigious neighborhoods and developments feature their own state of the art riding centers. The Blue Ridge Mountains were meant to be explored by horseback!
